Forest and Environment News:

BC Timber Sales Pursues SAFE Company Certification — There are now more than 1000 companies registered under the SAFE Companies program offered through the BC Forest Safety Council. This program is intended to improve forest industry safety and helps to ensure companies establish and maintain successful health and safety programs. The BC Timber Sales program recently joined this growing list of organizations as they hope to achieve SAFE companies status within the next 6 months. See News Release.

The Legislature recently introduced Bill 18, the Forests and Range Statutes Amendment Act, 2007, which has now passed second reading. Amendments will be made to the Forest Act, the Forest and Range Practices Act and the Wildfire Act, among others. Some sections will come in force by Royal Assent and others by regulation. Consumer Taxation Branch Updates — A new Audit One-Stop Shopping webpage has been created to quickly find all audit related information in one place. See Audit One-Stop Shopping. A new Consumer Tax Audit Video has been developed. See Video. A notice regarding New Registration and Collection Threshold of PST is available which explains that registration and collection of PST may be optional for some individuals and groups who meet certain conditions. See PST update. The Laundry and Dry-Cleaning Businesses bulletin has been revised to clarify examples of taxable materials and equipment See Bulletin SST 005.

Proposed Legislation to Impact TransLink — A new Bill, the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority Amendment Act, 2007, 2007 Bill 36 [First Reading] was recently introduced which will "reorganize" the current TransLink governance and funding structure. See News Release.
