New Carbon Tax Act in effect July 1st – For your convenience, Quickscribe has now posted the new Carbon Tax Act, chap. 40, SBC 2008, (2008 Bill 37), and the Carbon Tax Regulation (B.C. Reg. 125/2008) although they do not come into force until July 1. The most talked-about item is the increase in taxes on gasoline (2.41 ¢/L on July 1, 2008, increasing to 7.23 ¢/L starting July 1, 2012. (See Schedule 1 of the Act). See 2008 Bill 37 or the Carbon Tax Regulation.

New Report Gives Quickscribe the Thumbs Up — Back in 2007 Quickscribe hired the services of Stem Legal to help us more effectively compete for exposure against some of the more established entities including the legislation services being offered by the government. A report was recently commissioned by Stem Legal, and produced by the Crosby Group to do an objective comparison between Quickscribe Online and QP Legaleze. This report was to be used to help provide Quickscribe with some direction for future development. We were very encouraged by the findings and have decided to share them with our clients. June oil and gas rights sale maintains record pace — The June 18, 2008 sale of oil and gas rights remains robust with $213 million in bonus bids. The sale brings the fiscal year-to-date total to $693.9 million, it was recently announced. See News Release.

Changes in carbon tax for diesel fuel — As reported by the BC Forest Safety Council the BC Government has slightly revised the amount of carbon tax it plans to take from road users. See full story.

BC timber sales sets safety certification standard — BC Timber Sales is now requiring all its contractors and those companies that conduct on-the-ground works under a timber sale licence advertised after Dec. 31, 2008 to be SAFE Company certified. See full story.
