Commencement:

 Explanatory Notes

CLAUSE 1: [School Act, section 85.2]

  • expands the authority of boards of education to provide child care programs on board properties;
  • changes the description of costs in relation to the fees that boards of education may charge.

CLAUSE 2: [School Act, section 85.3] changes the description of costs in relation to the revenue that boards of education may obtain.

SCHOOL AMENDMENT ACT, 2025

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:


1 Section 85.2 of the School Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 412, is amended

(a) by repealing subsection (1) and substituting the following:

(1) A board may provide a child care program on board property if the board is a licensee. , and

(b) in subsection (2) by striking out "a student" and substituting "a child", by striking out "direct" and substituting "reasonable" and by adding "to the child" after "providing that child care program".


2 Section 85.3 (2) is amended by striking out "direct and indirect" and substituting "reasonable".

Commencement

3 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
