BILL M231 – 2026 VETERANS AND FIRST RESPONDERS MONTH ACT
Preamble
WHEREAS veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and first responders,
including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, search and rescue
personnel, emergency dispatchers and other emergency service workers,
have served and continue to serve British Columbians with courage,
professionalism and dedication;
AND WHEREAS veterans and first responders have made and continue to
make substantial contributions to the safety, security, resilience and
well-being of communities throughout British Columbia;
AND WHEREAS the month of November holds particular significance as a
time of remembrance and reflection, including Indigenous Veterans Day on
November 8 and Remembrance Day on November 11, when British Columbians
honour the service and sacrifice of veterans and those who have served
in uniform;
AND WHEREAS the designation of November as Veterans and First
Responders Month will provide an opportunity to coordinate, support and
promote initiatives that recognize service, commemorate sacrifice and
educate future generations about the vital role that veterans and first
responders play in British Columbian society;
AND WHEREAS the Legislature wishes to recognize and honour the
service, sacrifice and ongoing contributions of veterans and first
responders across British Columbia;
THEREFORE HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as
follows:
Veterans and First Responders Month
1 The month of November is "Veterans and First Responders Month" throughout British Columbia.
Commencement
2 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
Explanatory Note
This Bill establishes the month of November as "Veterans and First Responders Month" in British Columbia.
