New Licence Bolsters Community Wildfire Protection – Government has introduced a new forestry licence to assist the harvest of Crown timber that poses a fire risk to nearby communities, Forests and Range Minister Rich Coleman recently announced. See News Release

Softwood Lumber Trade Update – On July 1, 2006 Trade Minister David Emerson and USTR Ambassador Susan Schwab initialed a Canada/U.S. Softwood Lumber Agreement. The federal government will submit the Agreement to Parliament in September with an anticipated effective date of October 1, 2006. Municipalities Missing from Disaster Planning, says FCM Report – Keeping our cities and communities safe requires municipal involvement in planning and coordinating emergency response, according to a report released by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM). See Report

Consumer Taxation Branch NewsMunicipal and Regional District Tax, has been updated to add the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District to the areas collecting additional tax on accommodation sales. See Bulletin HRT 007.

Enhanced Service with Digital Survey Plan Submission – The electronic submission of survey plans will enhance service and provide efficiencies for clients, B.C. Land Title and Survey Authority CEO Godfrey Archbold recently announced. The first release of this new system will allow legal survey plans to be submitted to the Crown Land Registry through the Electronic Filing System of the Land Title and Survey Authority. The next release of the system will allow survey plans to be submitted for Land Title registration. See News Release.
